RRI.CO.ID, Makassar - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) continues to enhance the skills and professionalism of its personnel to support operations under the operational control of the Fleet Command II Maritime Security Task Group. As part of this effort, personnel aboard KRI Hiu-634 conducted a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise in the Makassar Strait on Monday.

As quoted by tni.mil.id, the Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) exercise was designed to improve personnel's ability to establish tactical ship-to-ship communications and professionally conduct vessel boarding, inspection, and search procedures. These capabilities are essential for supporting maritime law enforcement operations and maintaining security in Indonesia's territorial waters.

The exercise also trained personnel to intercept vessels suspected of carrying illegal cargo or posing potential threats to maritime security.

As one of the standard operational procedures for maritime law enforcement, VBSS includes approaching, visiting, boarding, inspecting a target vessel's documents and cargo, and carrying out security measures to neutralize any potential threats.

During the exercise, the personnel also received training in Close Quarter Battle (CQB), evidence handling and preservation, as well as hostage rescue techniques.

Through this training, the crew of KRI Hiu-634 is expected to become more skilled, responsive, and professional in carrying out operational duties, particularly maritime law enforcement missions. The exercise also forms part of the Indonesian Navy's continuous efforts to enhance personnel readiness in addressing the dynamic challenges of operations in Indonesia's waters.

Furthermore, the training supports the Indonesian Navy's commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime security and sovereignty, in line with the directive of Commander of the Second Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada II), Rear Admiral I G. P. Alit Jaya.
