RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Chief Justice of the Indonesian Supreme Court Sunarto officially inaugurated Destry Damayanti as the new Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026–2031 term at the Supreme Court Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The high-profile ceremony also marked the swearing-in of Aida S. Budiman as Senior Deputy Governor and Solikin M. Juhro as Deputy Governor to complete the central bank's new leadership team.
Following her inauguration, Governor Destry announced that Bank Indonesia will maintain a sharp focus on economic stability to navigate ongoing global financial volatility. This steady policy direction comes as international markets face prolonged pressure, requiring a cautious national strategy to protect the domestic economy from external shocks.
To achieve these goals, the central bank plans to combine its core policy tools rather than relying on a single financial strategy. By aligning monetary, macroprudential, and payment system frameworks, Bank Indonesia aims to keep the nation's financial system resilient while supporting broader economic growth.
She emphasized, “So, we are indeed facing a ‘higher for longer’ condition. This means that global uncertainty remains very high. And that will certainly affect us to some extent, so our stance at the outset is that we will indeed remain focused on stability.”
Beyond high-level policy adjustments, the central bank is set to expand support for key local sectors, including small businesses and Islamic finance. These targeted initiatives are designed to deepen national financial markets and strengthen the economic foundation from the ground up.
She added, “But don’t forget that Bank Indonesia has a wide range of policies. We have three main policy areas. These are monetary, macroprudential, and payment system policies. Not to mention other policies related to MSMEs, the Islamic finance sector, and, of course, financial market deepening. So, naturally, we’ll be leveraging these policies.”
Under its new leadership, Destry said Bank Indonesia will execute these policies through the "3I+S" principles, focusing on impactful, inclusive, and integrative measures combined with strong inter-agency cooperation. This collaborative approach aims to foster a secure investment environment and drive sustainable national economic growth over the next five years.
