PLN Accelerates Power Restoration After Earthquake in NTT

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Post‑earthquake power restoration in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, continues to be accelerated. State‑owned electricity company PLN has mobilized all available personnel to expedite repairs to the earthquake-damaged power grid.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company is prioritizing safety and speed in its response. “We are deploying our field teams in full force to ensure these repairs proceed smoothly,” Darmawan said during a press conference for the Electricity Standby Operation for Indonesia’s 81st Virtual Independence Day Celebration at PLN UIP2B Jamali in Depok, West Java, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Darmawan also traveled to Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, to ensure the recovery process was progressing optimally. He expressed concern and offered prayers for communities affected by the disaster.

The power outage occurred after the earthquake triggered landslides in several locations, causing multiple power poles to collapse. PLN’s technical teams are repairing the infrastructure in stages while strengthening on‑the‑ground coordination.

Darmawan said power plants that had been shut down are now back online. All 11 substations that previously experienced outages have also been successfully restored.

“Of the 59 affected feeder lines, 58 feeders -- or 98.3 percent -- are now operational, and as of just moments ago when we arrived here, we’ve successfully restored power to 88 percent of customers,” Darmawan said.

Repairs remain focused on the approximately 11 percent of customers who have not yet had power restored. Areas affected by landslides are being prioritized because several power poles were damaged and require immediate attention.

“We are currently repairing them one by one, so we expect that by Sunday (August 16), the power will be back on,” he said.

Power grid restoration is also helping reactivate telecommunications services. Most transmission stations have regained power, improving public communication and emergency response efforts. ***
