RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a three‑day state visit to Indonesia to meet President Prabowo Subianto and discuss ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in trade, investment, defense, maritime security, energy, and technology.
According to the Ministry of State Secretariat's official website, PM Modi arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026, at around 5:20 p.m. local time. President Prabowo greeted him upon arrival, a gesture of state respect underscoring the close bilateral ties between Indonesia and India.
Before landing, Modi’s plane was escorted by three F‑16 fighter jets and two Sukhoi jets as it entered Indonesian airspace.
After a warm handshake and brief conversation at the foot of the aircraft steps, the two leaders walked side by side past a guard of honor, accompanied by a military band and six gun salutes. The ceremony also featured a traditional Indonesian dance performance, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage.
During his visit, Modi is scheduled to attend several state events with President Prabowo, including an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, bilateral meetings, and a state banquet.
The visit provides an opportunity for Indonesia and India to further consolidate their strategic partnership, which dates back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1951. Cooperation spans trade, investment, defense, maritime security, energy, technology, education, and people‑to‑people exchanges.
This marks Modi’s second visit to Indonesia, following his 2018 trip.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said Modi will also visit Prambanan Temple and sign several memorandums of understanding during his stay.
“Then, as usual, there will be a one‑on‑one meeting followed by bilateral meetings. The official program will conclude with a state banquet at the State Palace,” Minister Sugiono said after welcoming Modi to Jakarta on Monday.
He added that Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple is part of Indonesia's and India’s collaboration on restoration efforts.
In addition, both countries will sign agreements and MoUs in various fields, including health and technology development. ***
