RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR RI) will process four names submitted by the government to fill the positions of Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).
The process will begin once the House’s legislative session opens on August 14, 2026, followed by fit and proper tests conducted by Commission XI.
DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani said the selection process for BI leadership candidates would be carried out in accordance with established mechanisms and prevailing laws and regulations. After the stages in Commission XI are completed, the results will be brought to the House plenary session for approval.
“On Monday, August 10, 2026, the State Secretary sent the presidential letter to the House leadership,” Puan said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The government has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for BI Governor. Aida S. Budiman has been proposed as Senior Deputy Governor, while Solikin M. Juhro and M. Anwar Bashori have been nominated for the Deputy Governor positions.
As a result, the House will not immediately confirm the appointments. The candidates must first undergo fit and proper tests to assess their competence, integrity, vision, and ability to carry out duties at the central bank. The House has previously used the same mechanism for selecting BI officials.
Puan said the fit and proper tests would be held after the legislative session resumes. “Since the session opens on August 14, we will process the names after that date,” she said.
Following the fit and proper tests in Commission XI, the House will decide which candidates are deemed suitable for each position. House approval is part of the BI leadership appointment process, in accordance with applicable regulations.
Indonesia’s Financial Sector Development and Strengthening (P2SK) Law stipulates that the BI Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and Deputy Governors are proposed and appointed by the President with the approval of the House.
Earlier, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced that the President had submitted candidates to fill the positions of BI Governor, Senior Deputy Governor, and one vacant Deputy Governor seat.
Prasetyo said the government leaves it entirely to the House to process the nominations in accordance with established mechanisms and prevailing laws and regulations. ***
