RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital is aligning electronic certification and digital signature standards with international frameworks to strengthen and facilitate cross-border digital transactions.

The alignment is expected to boost global trust in Indonesia’s digital ecosystem and reinforce regional and international cooperation.

“We continue to align Indonesia’s electronic certification and digital signature framework with internationally recognized standards for valid electronic signatures. This means that certificates issued under Indonesian law adhere to legal and technical standards trusted by our regional partners,” Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, said in an official statement on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Nezar explained that harmonizing standards is a crucial step in building trust in Indonesia’s digital ecosystem. Such trust will support the interoperability of cross-border electronic services and transactions.

He added that international recognition of national electronic certification will strengthen Indonesia’s position in the digital sector and enhance regional and global acknowledgment of national certification.

“A country’s digital sovereignty will be strengthened if its trust framework is robust enough to be recognized by other countries. It will not be strengthened if the system is so closed that it does not require trust from anyone,” he said.

Nezar noted that the government has established a legal framework to reinforce national digital trust. This foundation sets accountability standards that all electronic system providers must meet.

He cited two key regulations: Law No. 27/2022 on Personal Data Protection and Government Regulation No. 71/2019 on the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions.

“This foundation is a basic accountability standard that every provider must meet, enabling the development of sectoral trust frameworks, including the use of certified digital signatures,” Nezar said.

Previously, Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) Chairman Muhammad Arif stressed the importance of building a secure and trustworthy digital ecosystem through collaboration between the government, industry, and stakeholders.

He said strengthening digital infrastructure and governance is essential to driving sustainable national digital transformation.

In line with these efforts, harmonizing electronic certification standards is seen as a way to enhance the interoperability of Indonesia’s digital services with those of other countries.
