RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to improving international royalty management at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, held from July 7 to 15, 2026.
Minister Supratman noted that Indonesia had submitted a royalty governance proposal to the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) in December 2025. The proposal aims to strengthen the international royalty management system by making it more transparent, accountable, and equitable.
“This proposal strengthens the ecosystem by implementing three principles: transparency, responsibility, and interoperability. With these, the digital economy can function more optimally for the creative industry,” Minister Supratman said in a press statement in Jakarta on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Indonesia also urged WIPO member states to expand discussions on royalty governance to include journalistic works and artificial intelligence. The talks focused on ensuring fair attribution and remuneration for creators in the digital era.
“This discussion must be broadened to address new challenges, including protecting journalistic works and advances in artificial intelligence,” he said.
In addition, Indonesia welcomed UNESCO’s consultation on the draft Guidance on Fair Compensation for News. The initiative is considered to strengthen copyright protection and encourage a more equitable compensation system for the media.
“UNESCO’s initiative complements WIPO’s discussions on copyright protection and royalty governance. This step embodies President Prabowo’s Astacita vision, which places the creative economy at the heart of national independence,” Minister Supratman said.
Indonesia will host the Global Forum on Transboundary Copyright Royalty Management in Bali in October 2026. The forum will bring together WIPO member countries to strengthen cross-border royalty governance worldwide. (Misni Parjiati)`
