RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia is getting closer to exporting green electricity to Singapore. However, the implementation of this cooperation still depends on reaching a pricing agreement considered fair by both countries.

The Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, said that discussions on electricity exports were one of the main agenda items during the Indonesia-Singapore bilateral meeting. This cooperation is part of three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in the energy sector signed last year.

“We have three MoUs. First, electricity exports to Singapore (green electricity); second, a green industrial zone; and third, carbon capture and storage (CCS)," Minister Bahlil said during a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Monday, June 6, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

"All three form a single package that we signed last year,” he added.

Minister Bahlil said that negotiations on electricity exports have shown progress, but both countries are still aligning their pricing mechanisms. The Indonesian government wants a scheme that provides balanced economic benefits while strengthening long-term energy ties.

“This cooperation must be mutually beneficial for both parties. We’re just at that point, and I think we’ll reach a consensus soon,” Minister Bahlil said.

The plan to export green electricity is part of 26 agreements reached by Indonesia and Singapore across sectors, including energy, trade, investment, the digital economy, connectivity, cybersecurity, and defense. Eighteen of these agreements are intergovernmental collaborations, while the remaining eight involve the private sector.

The government views the conclusion of price negotiations as key to ensuring that cross-border electricity exports can be realized soon. The agreement is expected not only to accelerate the transition to green energy but also to boost Indonesia's economic value. ***
