RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Committee for the Acceleration of Government Digital Transformation (KPTDP) is advancing efforts to build a digital government, including piloting the digitalization of social assistance distribution, developing a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework, and preparing a presidential regulation on digital governance.
These initiatives were discussed during a meeting between KPTDP Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Tony Blair, Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) and former British Prime Minister, at the National Economic Council office on Monday, July 6, 2026.
Luhut said a digital government powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is crucial for increasing bureaucratic efficiency, strengthening transparency, and supporting the President’s priority programs.
“The implementation of digital government supported by AI is the best solution for carrying out every priority program of the President. We don’t want to miss this opportunity because with digital government we can be efficient, transparent, and reduce face‑to‑face interactions,” Luhut said, as quoted on the official website of the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.
As part of the initial implementation, the KPTDP has completed a pilot project digitalizing social assistance in Banyuwangi Regency.
The program is now being prepared for expansion to 42 regencies and cities, as well as`````` Batam City and Bali Province. Luhut said the pilot has shown that aid distribution has become faster and more transparent.
In addition, the KPTDP is drafting a presidential regulation to establish a national digital government framework. The regulation will promote the use of AI, digital identity, data exchange, and digital payments, while prioritizing personal data security and protection.
“Our focus is on creating a safe and trusted digital ecosystem for the public, as well as developing a presidential regulation to formalize the digital government framework. AI plays a vital role in analyzing digital identity data, increasing efficiency, and optimizing tax revenue,” Luhut said.
He added that collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute is expected to accelerate the use of AI in social protection, health, education, and ease of doing business, while also strengthening the capacity of government officials in digitalization and AI governance.
On the occasion, Tony Blair noted Indonesia’s progress in developing digital government, particularly in simplifying public administration services. Considering Indonesia’s large population and archipelagic geography, he said the transformation is a significant achievement.
“The most important part of digital government is implementation. I heard earlier that Indonesia’s administrative service process has been shortened. Integration between programs and digital education for teams is key,” Blair said.
Meanwhile, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Rini Widyantini said the transformation will be supported by Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which integrates digital identity, data exchange, digital payments, and social protection portals. The goal is to deliver simpler and more accountable public services.
“We welcome TBI’s involvement in this effort. TBI’s leadership in public sector reform and digital transformation has inspired many countries, including Indonesia. Continued support for Indonesia’s digital transformation will be invaluable,” Minister Rini said. ***
