RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Home Affairs Minister, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to accelerating digital transformation by expanding the pilot program for digital social assistance to 43 regencies and municipalities. The initiative is part of Indonesia's broader effort to deliver more modern, transparent, and better-targeted public services through Government Technology (GovTech).

Tito announced the expansion while chairing the Coordination and Monitoring Meeting on the Expansion of the Digital Social Assistance Pilot Program in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30. He said the initiative represents an important step toward building a technology-driven government ecosystem across the country.

The expansion follows the successful implementation of the pilot project in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, where the program demonstrated positive results. Encouraged by the outcome, the government has decided to extend the initiative to dozens of additional regions.

"This meeting is held to expand the digital social assistance pilot program to 43 regencies and municipalities, and it also serves as the foundation of the roadmap toward GovTech, government technology, and e-government," Tito said.

He added that digital transformation has already produced tangible benefits in the distribution of social assistance. "This is one example of the benefits of the digital transformation program in the social sector," he said.

According to him, one social assistance recipient voluntarily chose to withdraw from the program after becoming financially independent. He said the decision reflects how a more transparent system can help ensure that assistance reaches those who need it most.

The government will continue coordinating with regional administrations as well as relevant ministries and agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the expanded program. Supported by cross-sector data integration and artificial intelligence (AI), the digital system is expected to improve the accuracy, transparency, and accountability of social assistance distribution.

The government is also developing a mechanism that will allow citizens to apply for social assistance independently or through authorized agents without lengthy administrative procedures. Through this digital transformation, Indonesia aims to improve the quality of public services while ensuring that social assistance is delivered to eligible beneficiaries more effectively.
