RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region (DKI) of Jakarta held the Jakarta Twilight Soiree: Commemorating Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary at the A.A. Maramis Building, Lapangan Banteng Street, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 22 June 2026. The event, which also formed part of the commemoration series for Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary, was attended by hundreds of invited guests including the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, 50 ambassadors, representatives of partner countries, and international partners.
In a press release, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the celebration of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary served as an opportunity to reflect on the city’s journey. That, he added, also includes strengthening collaboration toward becoming an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable global city.
“In the atmosphere of Jakarta’s twilight, we gather to celebrate friendship, collaboration, and the long journey of a city that continues to grow,” he said.
Governor Pramono explained that Jakarta continues undergoing transformation through urban improvement initiatives and stronger integration of public spaces. He highlighted the integration of the Lapangan Banteng area with the A.A. Maramis Building to create public spaces that are more connected and accessible for residents.
He further stated that Jakarta’s progress was reflected in improved international indicators and regional recognition achievements. According to him, Jakarta advanced from 74th to 71st position in the Global City Index and also received recognition as the safest city in the region, with the second-best transportation system in ASEAN.
According to the governor, these achievements were made possible through collaboration among various stakeholders and support from international partners. Strategic projects contributing to this progress included Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Phase 2A, Light Rail Transit (LRT) development, bus fleet electrification, Transit Oriented Development (TOD) areas, and improved waste and water management systems.
Expressing appreciation for these contributions, Governor Pramono thanked representatives of partner countries for their continued cooperation with the Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. He noted that international collaboration remained essential in supporting the city’s transformation and expanding opportunities for future partnerships.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that the provincial administration would continue strengthening international cooperation in the coming years. He added that the reactivation of underperforming sister city partnerships and improvements in transportation systems and urban development would remain priorities for supporting Jakarta’s global connectivity.
“Jakarta has several sister city partnerships, but some have not been functioning optimally. We aim to strengthen those partnerships again because connectivity is essential to becoming a global city,” he said.
