RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sari Yuliati, has urged the National Police to thoroughly investigate the case of a woman identified as YTR (29), who was allegedly confined and abused for three years in Bandung Regency, West Java.
Sari expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it a serious form of violence that cannot be tolerated. “The violence suffered by the victim is a grave violation of human rights,” she said on Sunday, June 21, 2026. “This case must not be left unresolved.”
She emphasized that the case goes beyond criminal law, describing it as gender-based violence with both physical and psychological impacts. “We strongly condemn these acts of confinement and abuse. Every act of violence against women must be dealt with firmly under applicable laws,” she said.
Sari called on the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation. “The perpetrators must be prosecuted under the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes and relevant provisions of the Criminal Code,” she said.
Beyond law enforcement, Sari stressed the importance of victim protection and recovery. She urged ministries, agencies, and local administrations to ensure the victim receives necessary services. “Victims must receive maximum protection, psychological support, health services, legal aid, and ongoing trauma recovery,” she said.
She added that the government must be present to guarantee victims’ rights and ensure the recovery process proceeds effectively. Sari hopes that this case will serve as momentum to strengthen efforts to prevent and address violence against women in Indonesia. “There must be no room for perpetrators of violence against women,” she emphasized.
