RRI.CO.ID, Aceh - The recovery process in Aceh following last year’s hydrometeorological disaster has shown significant progress. The government reported that most public services, economic activities, and basic infrastructure have returned to normal, although rehabilitation and reconstruction work are still ongoing.
Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the Sumatra Post‑Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, said evaluation results indicate that life in the affected areas has largely returned to functional normalcy.
“Earlier, we evaluated what was achieved during the emergency response and transition periods. Various basic services that were disrupted have resumed, and community activities are gradually recovering. In essence, we have returned to normal -- not permanently, but functionally,” Minister Tito said during a coordination meeting at the Aceh Governor’s Office on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Minister Tito noted that government facilities and healthcare services are operating again, and most schools have resumed classes, though some continue to use temporary facilities.
Similar progress has been made in infrastructure. Most affected roads and bridges are now usable, enabling smooth public mobility and the distribution of goods. Economic activity in markets, stalls, and trade centers is also beginning to recover.
Basic services such as electricity, fuel, internet, and logistics supplies have also returned to normal in affected areas.
“This means that the movement of people and goods is running smoothly. Electricity is working, gas stations are operating, and the internet is functioning. There are no logistics shortages,” he said.
However, the government stressed that recovery is not yet complete. Rehabilitation of homes, schools, roads, bridges, agricultural land, fish ponds, and flood‑prone areas will continue to be accelerated through cooperation between the central government and regional administrations.
“There are still many unresolved issues. Housing, education, roads, bridges, rice fields, fish ponds, and other facilities need to be repaired, rehabilitated, reconstructed, and, if necessary, improved,” Minister Tito said. ***
