Defense Ministry: Indonesia Needs 2 Komcad Battalions in Each Regency

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB), Rini Widyantini, stated that basic military training is an investment in the quality and character of civil servants in carrying out their duties and roles in the future.

"The discipline, teamwork skills, and resilience that are forged will be brought back to the agency, so that participants can work more effectively and productively," Minister Rini said at the closing ceremony of the 2026 ASN Reserve Component (komcad) Basic Military Training Batch I, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, Friday, 5 June 2026.

The participation of ASN as a Reserve Component is stipulated in Circular Letter of the Minister of PANRB No. 27/2021 concerning the Role of ASN Employees as Reserve Components in Supporting National Defense Efforts. According to her, Komcad personnel serve in two duty periods. During the inactive period, all members return to their professions and daily duties. During their active period, members are called up and activated to carry out defense duties.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Vice Minister of Defense, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, told the media that the Ministry of Defense intends to establish two Reserve Component Battalions in every regency and city in Indonesia. He stated that this target reflects the ideal Komcad structure that the Defense Ministry wants to achieve in the future.

"So, we hope to have two Komcad Battalions in each regency. In addition to one infantry battalion, we also hope to have two Komcad battalions in each of the 514 regencies. We hope to achieve that target," Donny said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, Friday, 5 June 2026.

According to him, the Komcad remains a priority to support the Indonesian Military (TNI) national defense duties when needed.

"Their primary task is that if the TNI needs military defense duties, then we expect mobilization support from Komcads in the regions," he explained.

In addition, he added that the Komcad formation program is ongoing. One example is the recent appointment of 500 civil servants (ASN) in South Sulawesi Province as Komcad members.

Donny mentioned several provincial governments also plan to hold Komcad training in the future as part of efforts to expand reserve strength.
