Defense Minister Leads Military Funeral Ceremony for the Late General Ryamizard

RRI.CO.ID – Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, led the military funeral ceremony for the late General (Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu at the National Heroes Cemetery (TMP) Kalibata, Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June 2026. The funeral was conducted with full military honors as a tribute from the state to the late general’s dedication and service to the nation and the country.
Previously, the late General Ryamizard had been awarded the prestigious Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana, one of Indonesia’s highest state honors, by President Joko Widodo in 2020.
In his address during the military funeral at the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata, Defense Minister Sjafrie expressed the nation’s highest appreciation for the late general’s dedication and contributions to Indonesia.
"On behalf of the state, the nation, and the Indonesian Military, we hereby commit the body, soul, and services of the late General (Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu, who has passed away in service of and for the dignity of the state and the nation to the motherland. May the path of duty and service he followed serve as an example for all of us, and may his soul be granted the best place in the presence of Almighty God," Defense Minister Sjafrie said.
The ceremony concluded with the lowering of the casket into the grave, followed by a joint prayer and the scattering of flower petals by family members as a final tribute.
In a press statement following the ceremony, Defense Minister Sjafrie, conveyed that "the late general was an exemplary soldier whose dedication and service to the nation never wavered, making him a role model for all members of the Indonesian Armed Forces."

The Minister also recalled one of the late general’s principles: that soldiers should receive recognition for every successful mission, while commanders must take responsibility whenever a mission fails.
The funeral was attended by numerous government officials and national figures, senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian Police (Polri), as well as family members and close relatives.
Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at 2:03 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
He passed away at the age of 76. He was born in Palembang, South Sumatra, on 12 April 1950. He graduated from the Indonesian Military Academy in 1974 and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps.
The retired four-star general served as Indonesia’s Minister of Defense during President Joko Widodo’s first term in office from 2014 to 2019. Before becoming Defense Minister, his final position in the Indonesian Military was Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD), a role he held for three years, from 2002 to 2005.
