Presidential Decree Confirms Rail Project Leadership Shift

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), has been appointed Chair of the Committee for the High-Speed Train connecting Jakarta and Bandung.

This appointment was made based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) of the Republic of Indonesia No. 29/2026, which is the second amendment to Presidential Regulation No. 107/2015 concerning the acceleration of infrastructure and facilities for the high-speed train between Jakarta and Bandung.

"In this Presidential Regulation, a Committee for the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail, hereinafter referred to as the Committee, is established," as stated in a copy of Presidential Regulation No. 29/2026 released in Jakarta on Saturday, May 30, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Presidential Regulation explains that the Chair of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Committee will be held by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, while the Vice Chair will be held by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartanto.

The members of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Rail Committee will consist of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Investment and Downstream Development/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency, the Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency, and the Head of the Danantara Investment Management Agency.

This Presidential Regulation stipulates that the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development is responsible for coordinating the implementation of infrastructure and facilities for the high-speed train connecting Jakarta and Bandung. Presidential Regulation No. 29/2026 was signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on May 12, 2026.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, said that the government is currently discussing with relevant stakeholders a plan to restructure the finances of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train, known as Whoosh.

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono also explained that these discussions align with President Prabowo Subianto's instructions for the state to participate and take responsibility for ensuring the continuity of this strategic national project.

AHY emphasized that the government is currently focusing primarily on completing the financial restructuring before proceeding to the development of the high-speed train project in other regions. ***
