RRI.CO.ID, Bogor - The Ministry of Transportation discovered dozens of violations in bus fleets during road safety inspections carried out over the Ascension Day holiday.

Of the 55 buses inspected at the KM 45 Rest Area on the Jagorawi Toll Road in Bogor Regency, West Java, 19 were found to have breached administrative and roadworthiness regulations.

The inspection, or ramp check, was conducted by the Directorate General of Land Transportation on May 14–15, 2026, as a precautionary measure against increased public mobility during the holiday period.

Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, said the fleet consisted of 44 tourist buses, seven intercity and interprovincial (AKAP) buses, and four interprovincial shuttle buses (AJAP).

“During the two-day ramp check, 19 vehicles were found to have violated roadworthiness requirements, while 36 others met administrative and roadworthiness standards,” Aan said in a written statement on Monday, May 18, 2026, as quoted by infopublik.id.

Violations were considered serious as they directly affected passenger safety. Four vehicles had expired roadworthiness inspections (KIR), three had no KIRs, and one was suspected of using fake KIR documents.

Seven vehicles had expired inspection cards (KPS), six had no KPSs, one was suspected of using fake KPSs, and two were found deviating from their routes.

According to Aan, inspections covered administrative documents, operational permits, KIR validity, route compliance, driver documents, and the technical and physical condition of vehicles.

The government stressed that operator compliance with safety standards must be strengthened to reduce the risk of accidents, especially during peak travel periods. To protect passengers, free replacement buses are being provided for those whose vehicles are deemed unroadworthy.

“We provide free replacement buses for passengers if the vehicles they use are deemed unroadworthy,” Aan said.

In addition to enforcement, the government reminded bus operators and drivers to be more disciplined in ensuring their fleets are safe before operating, including checking driver health and readiness.

“Bus operators and drivers must comply with all applicable regulations for the safety and security of passengers and other road users,” he said.

The public was also urged to proactively check the legality and roadworthiness of vehicles before traveling, including through the Mitra Darat application, which provides information on operational status and public transportation supervision.

The results of the ramp check will be used to evaluate and strengthen supervision and law enforcement of passenger transportation providers in the future. ***
