RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s defense modernization is being reinforced amid rising global geopolitical tensions. The addition of Dassault Rafale Multi‑Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA) and other new defense systems is seen as a crucial step in safeguarding national sovereignty.

House Commission I lawmaker Oleh Soleh said strengthening the defense system must continue so Indonesia is prepared to face threats from multiple directions. “This addition of military equipment is critical, especially in the current uncertain global geopolitical climate,” Oleh said in Jakarta on Monday, May 18, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Indonesian Air Force received six Rafale fighter jets as part of the modernization program. It also added one Airbus A400M Atlas MRTT aircraft, four Dassault Falcon 8X units, a GM403 GCI radar, and advanced weapons systems, including Meteor missiles and Smart Weapon Hammer systems.

Oleh said strengthening the Air Force, Navy, and Army will enhance Indonesia’s readiness to maintain national security. He also praised President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to accelerate the procurement of strategic defense equipment.

He noted that ongoing international conflicts, including tensions in the Middle East, highlight the need for every nation to maintain strong defense capabilities. “A nation with weak defense will be highly vulnerable to threats and attacks from other parties,” he said.

Oleh hopes that the government’s continued modernization of defense equipment will provide a solid foundation for strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global arena. He said the effort is vital to protecting territorial sovereignty and ensuring long‑term national security. ***
