RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has urged that the crackdown on online gambling syndicates in Indonesia be carried out consistently and continuously, not halted after a single case is exposed.

Her statement followed the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit disclosure of an international online gambling network involving 321 foreigners in West Jakarta.

“It is important to strengthen monitoring to prevent online gambling activities from spreading further in Indonesia. This is crucial to ensure the problem does not escalate,” Puan said during a press conference at the House Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

She warned that international syndicates are exploiting Indonesia as an operational hub for online gambling. Referring to the bust in West Jakarta, she called on police to investigate thoroughly and pursue the masterminds behind the network.

“We must take proactive measures to ensure Indonesia is not used as a stopover or primary hub for online gambling. That cannot be allowed to happen,” Puan stressed.

Earlier, Commission III Speaker Habiburokhman said online gambling has evolved into transnational organized crime that threatens society and national resilience.

According to him, online gambling is no longer a conventional crime, as it involves digital technology, large-scale money flows, and can trigger other offenses such as money laundering and fraud. “Therefore, its handling must be serious, consistent, and comprehensive,” he said.

Police confirmed that 321 foreigners were arrested in connection with the international online gambling network in the Hayam Wuruk area of West Jakarta. Brig. Gen. Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Unit, said the arrests followed a lengthy investigation based on public information. (Gusti Panji)
