RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is preparing to revise Trade Minister Regulation Number 31 of 2023 on the e-commerce and online marketplace ecosystem. The move is aimed at strengthening the foundation of the country’s growing digital economy.
The planned revision was announced during the 2026 National Consumer Day celebration in Jakarta on Sunday, May 10, 2026. The government believes updated regulations are needed to make the digital trade system more responsive to new challenges.
Indonesia's Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, said the regulatory revision is still under discussion with relevant stakeholders. “We are currently preparing a revision of the regulation concerning the e-commerce ecosystem,” he said.
According to him, the new policy will focus on protecting consumers in online transactions. In addition, the government seeks to increase support for local products and small and medium-sized enterprises.
He stressed that domestic products should receive greater priority on digital platforms. “Local products must be given stronger priority in promotion and sales through e-commerce,” he said.
The government is also involving platform operators and sellers in discussions on the new regulation. This step is intended to create a balance of interests among all participants in the digital trade sector.
Budi further conveyed the digital commerce ecosystem must operate in a mutually beneficial manner for all parties. “E-commerce needs sellers, and sellers also need e-commerce,” he stated.
Through this regulatory revision, Indonesia is demonstrating its commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable digital economy. The government hopes the new policy will benefit both businesses and consumers.
