RRI.CO.ID, Miangas - Fresh from the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Miangas -- Indonesia’s northernmost island bordering the Philippines -- on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time.

Wearing a cream-colored safari shirt, the President stepped off the plane and greeted officials before boarding the official Maung tactical vehicle to begin his program.

His first stop was state-run vocational high school SMK Miangas 2 in Talaud Regency, where residents, including children waving small red-and-white flags, gathered under prepared tents to welcome him.

The President was also scheduled to inspect health facilities at the Miangas Community Health Center (Puskesmas). His visit underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring equal development in remote border areas, strengthening healthcare services, and improving educational opportunities for children.

Beyond social services, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of stimulating local economic growth so that communities in frontier regions directly benefit from national development.

Officials accompanying and welcoming the President included Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Public Works Minister Doddy Hanggodo, Air Force Chief of Staff Tony Hardjono, Talaud Regent Welly Titah, and Military Resort Commander 131/Santiago Brigadier General Martin Susilo Martopo Turnip.
