RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sudjatmiko, has urged the acceleration of the double-double track (DDT) development as a strategic step to improve national railway safety and governance. It is related to the train accident in East Bekasi.

He assessed that the separation of commuter train lines and long-distance train lines has become an urgent need, particularly on busy routes such as Bekasi to Cikarang, in order to reduce the risk of operational disruptions and accidents.

“This momentum must be used to accelerate the DDT. Commuter and long-distance train lines must be separated so that the operational system becomes safer and does not interfere with each other,” Sudjatmiko said at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, 30 April 2026.

He also explained that the DDT development has so far only reached Bekasi Station, while the Bekasi–Cikarang section still uses a mixed track system that is considered prone to disruptions due to the high traffic of commuter trains (KRL) and long-distance trains.

According to him, this condition is one of the weak points in the national railway system, as disruptions in one service can directly affect others. Sudjatmiko said that separating the lines would make train operations safer and more efficient, with commuter lines focused on urban mobility and other tracks designated for intercity and logistics trains.

He also noted that the acceleration of DDT development is now more feasible, as land acquisition in the area has largely been completed, reducing technical obstacles.

In addition to DDT, he also highlighted the importance of improving safety at level crossings by installing automatic barriers at several high-risk points. However, he emphasized that this measure is only temporary. “Automatic barriers are important in the short term. But in the long term, the solution remains line separation through DDT so that our railway system becomes safer and more modern,” he said.

Sudjatmiko also stressed the importance of synergy among stakeholders in improving national transportation safety to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
