RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Defense Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, said that the Reserve Component (Komcad) training for civil servants aims to instill strong national character, discipline, and a spirit of service. He made the remarks while directly reviewing the Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) for Komcad civil servants at Infantry Brigade 1 of Marine Corps, Cilandak, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
During the visit, Minister Sjafrie observed participant demonstrations, including marching drills and a simulated crowd-control exercise. He said the participation of civil servants in the Komcad program is expected to become a supporting force for the country’s main defense component, the Indonesian Military (TNI).
A total of 280 participants from 16 ministries and government agencies are taking part in the training, including the State Secretariat, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Forestry. Sjafrie affirmed that the Komcad training is not intended to militarize civil servants, but to build a state-defense mindset grounded in nationalism, patriotism, and professionalism.
He also appreciated the participants’ progress during the training, particularly in discipline, cohesion, and a spirit of togetherness. According to him, such improvements are important as civil servants are a strategic element in supporting government performance.
Moreover, he added that the diverse backgrounds of participants reflect Indonesia’s national motto of unity in diversity, which reinforces the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Minister Sjafrie also underscored the importance of integrity and responsibility among civil servants as public servants. He noted that all facilities, including the training, are funded by the people and must therefore be repaid through the best possible service.
Concluding his visit, the minister expressed appreciation to the Marine Corps for its role in ensuring the success of the Komcad training. He expressed hope that participants would emerge as disciplined, high-integrity civil servants capable of setting an example in their respective workplaces.
