RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – A lawmaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission V, Syafiuddin Asmoro, has voiced support for the Ministry of Transportation’s decision to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Green SM electric taxi operations.

The move follows the collision between a Commuter Line train and the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity service at Bekasi Timur Station, which was triggered by the stalled electric taxi.

“This is not the first incident, as Green SM taxis have repeatedly caused problems and posed safety risks. Therefore, the Ministry’s decision to carry out a thorough evaluation is appropriate and must be implemented immediately,” Syafiuddin said in a press release in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

He detailed several accidents involving Green SM taxis this year.

In January, one vehicle backed into a restaurant. In February, another struck a busway barrier in Ragunan. On April 3, a taxi became stuck at a road barrier in Jagakarsa and later crashed into a single vehicle on the Pesing flyover. On April 14, another incident occurred when a taxi hit a road barrier in Kuningan.

“This series of incidents indicates serious issues, both in terms of vehicle technical aspects, operational systems, and safety,” Syafiuddin said.

Earlier, the President Commissioner of state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Said Aqil Siradj, stated that driver negligence was the cause of the Bekasi Timur train accident. He explained that the taxi had entered the railway tracks, disrupting the passing Commuter Line train.

“This serves as a lesson for everyone. Drivers, riders, and train crews. Accidents would not happen if everyone were careful and cautious,” said Said Aqil after visiting victims at the regency-owned general hospital RSUD Bekasi on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

He emphasized that vehicles should never cross railway tracks when a train is approaching, warning that vibrations from locomotives can cause engines to stall. “If a train is near, a vehicle crossing the tracks can lose power. The vibrations from the locomotive can disrupt the engine,” he explained.

Said Aqil added that vehicles on the tracks interfere with railway signaling systems, causing sensors to malfunction and affecting the movement of other trains. “Because of that taxi, the Commuter Line stopped, and the sensors failed,” he said.

As a result of the disruption, the Commuter Line train came to a halt on the tracks before being struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity service. The collision was severe as the intercity train was unable to brake in time. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
