RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is urging the government to begin preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage early. It said the step is considered critical for improving the quality of services for pilgrims and anticipating various issues early on.

A House member, Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW), said that the 2027 season will be the second year the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has managed the pilgrimage. Therefore, various evaluation results and input from this year's Hajj must be immediately followed up for improvement.

"Various evaluations, input, and improvements from the DPR and the public need to be implemented from the start to improve the implementation of the Hajj," HNW said in a statement, as quoted from dpr.go.id on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

He explained that the House had approved a proposed down payment of approximately Rp4 trillion (about US$221.8 million) for hajj management costs. The funds will be used to cover initial payments for pilgrim services at Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina, in accordance with Saudi Arabian government regulations.

According to him, of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Saudi government is immediately launching preparations for the next Hajj pilgrimage after the end of the Hajj season. Therefore, the Indonesian government needs to immediately align the various recommendations of the DPR with the steps of the 2027 Hajj.

The House also considered the 2026 Hajj to have shown progress compared to the previous year. This is particularly seen in improved service quality and a reduction in several issues, such as the management of Islamic boarding schools and the distribution of pilgrim cards.

"The 2027 Hajj must be even better so that pilgrims can perform their pilgrimage with greater peace of mind, comfort, and devotion," he said.
