RRI.CO.ID, Palu - Thousands of Christians gathered in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, for the peak of the 5th National Easter celebration on April 26, 2026. The event marked the culmination of a nationwide series of religious observances held in a spirit of unity.
Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasarudin Umar, emphasized that Easter is not merely a religious occasion for Christians. He said the celebration carries universal values relevant to all Indonesians.
According to the Minister, Easter reflects messages of sacrifice, resurrection, and renewed hope. These values, he noted, are essential in addressing social, economic, and moral challenges in today’s global landscape.
The celebration in Palu and Sigi also drew attention for its display of interfaith harmony. Diverse communities coexisted peacefully, reflecting Indonesia’s pluralistic identity.
During the event, the Minister highlighted the importance of mutual respect among religious groups. He pointed to the presence of nearby houses of worship that continued their activities while maintaining harmony.
“So this means that a very beautiful condition has grown in the City of Palu. And we hope that this achievement will be maintained and even further improved. Later, we will become a laboratory of tolerance for Indonesia in Palu,” the Minister stated.
He expressed hope that the spirit of tolerance demonstrated in the region would be sustained. The government sees Palu as a potential model for strengthening unity across the country.
The Minister also called on Christians to continue serving as role models in society. He said their contributions through values of peace and love are vital for fostering national unity and development.
