RRI.CO.ID, Bali – A member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sigit Yunianto, has encouraged the preparation of a comprehensive master plan for gas network development, both in Bali and nationwide. He delivered the proposal during the Commission XII recess working visit to Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

As quoted from dpr.go.id, he assessed that current natural gas development is still not fully well-directed, as existing planning tends to be limited to the industrial sector. In fact, gas utilization needs to be expanded to reach the broader public in order to create efficiency and uniformity in energy prices.

“The existing master plan is still heavily focused on industry; going forward, it must cover the wider community,” Sigit conveyed.

He explained that without integrated planning, gas distribution, especially in cylinder form still faces price disparity issues due to distribution constraints. Therefore, he added, the development of gas networks is considered a strategic solution.

“With a well-planned gas network, price uniformity can be more easily achieved,” he said.

In addition, Sigit urged State Gas Company (PGN) to develop a master plan for natural gas development in Bali as a model that can be replicated in other regions. According to him, the plan must include a map of energy sources, distribution networks, and potential demand in each area.

“We want a clear picture of a master plan in Bali that can be implemented in other regions,” he stated.

He also affirmed the importance of cross-sector coordination in preparing the master plan, including between the government and energy business entities. Integrated planning is seen as key to ensuring effective and sustainable gas development. “There needs to be synergy between the government and business actors in formulating a national energy master plan,” he said.

In addition, Sigit believes that gas network development should be carried out gradually by involving various stakeholders, including the private sector. He cited the development of electricity networks, which was implemented in stages until it eventually reached the wider community.

“Gas network development must be gradual, but it must still have a clear direction through a master plan,” he said.

He added that the preparation of the master plan must also consider the energy potential in each region, including opportunities to utilize alternative energy such as biogas, which has already been developed within communities. “Each region’s potential needs to be mapped so that energy distribution can be more effective,” Sigit said.
