RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia has confirmed it will supply Indonesia with up to 150 million barrels of oil at a special price, following President Prabowo Subianto’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on April 13, 2026.
The President’s Special Envoy for Energy and the Environment, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, announced the agreement at the 2026 Economic Briefing in Jakarta on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
He said Russia initially committed to delivering 100 million barrels, with the option of increasing the supply by another 50 million barrels if needed to strengthen Indonesia’s energy security amid global economic turbulence.
“The President didn’t go to Moscow for fun. He went to meet President Putin for three hours and received a commitment from him,” Hashim said, as quoted by Antara.
He added that Russia is an important alternative energy supplier for Indonesia during the global energy crisis triggered by tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The government views diversifying energy supplies as crucial to maintaining national energy reliability amid geopolitical uncertainty.
Minister Bahlil Lahadalia previously stated that imported Russian crude oil is expected to arrive in Indonesia in April 2026. He also noted that plans to purchase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia are being finalized, including its contribution to national demand. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
