RRI.CO.ID, Magelang - Indonesia is reinforcing its commitment to cultural preservation by promoting heritage as a living tradition through national events. Based on a press release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Sunday, April 19, 2026, the initiative was highlighted through the Kirab Pusaka Nusantara 2026 at the Borobudur temple complex.

The event, held, Friday April 17, 2026, in Magelang, Central Java, was organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with cultural institutions. It marked the commemoration of National Keris Day and World Heritage Day while emphasizing the concept of “living heritage.”

The cultural procession brought together traditions, heirlooms, and active community participation from 20 villages surrounding Borobudur. The event underscored the role of local communities in preserving and sustaining cultural values across generations.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, expressed enthusiasm for the event, noting it was the first of its kind at Borobudur. “This cultural parade involves stakeholders from artists to local communities, reflecting the collective effort in preserving cultural heritage,” he said.

He affirmed that Borobudur’s significance extends beyond its monumental structure as a global tourism icon. “Its strength also lies in traditions, rituals, arts, and collective memory that continue to live within the community,” Fadli Zon said.

The minister also highlighted the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in cultural tourism development. “We hope Borobudur becomes increasingly welcoming to all visitors, including persons with disabilities and the elderly,” he stated.

The procession involved around 1,000 participants and featured a series of cultural activities, including a heritage march, interfaith prayers, and traditional rituals. The event concluded with a communal feast, symbolizing unity and harmony among participants.

The Ministry of Culture reaffirmed that such initiatives are essential to strengthening collaboration between government, communities, and cultural actors. “Through events like this, we aim to raise public awareness and position Borobudur as a global cultural destination rooted in local wisdom,” Fadli Zon conveyed.
