RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) confirmed that the revitalization of 154 transmigration sites will begin immediately. The initiative is part of a broader regional development strategy that leverages local resources.
AHY emphasized that transmigration is no longer just about relocating people to new areas. “Transmigration is not just moving people to new areas. This program must improve regional welfare and economic growth,” he said in a written statement on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
He made the remarks while inspecting the Makarti Muktitama Hall of the Ministry of Transmigration, which was recently renovated as part of institutional strengthening. The revitalization program focuses on improving the quality of life for transmigrant communities, with immediate priorities on basic infrastructure.
“Some areas have inadequate housing and limited road access. Electricity and clean water facilities are also lacking,” AHY noted.
The program aims to establish new hubs of economic growth based on the unique potential of each region. “Transmigration will create new economic centers based on regional potential. Investment and industry will be developed according to the characteristics of the region,” he said.
He cited Barelang to Rempang as examples of regions with significant industrial potential, while eastern Indonesia excels in agriculture and tourism.
The initiative also involves young people through the Trans Patriot program, which focuses on research and development in transmigration areas.
At the same event, Transmigration Minister Iftitah Sulaiman highlighted the importance of legal certainty in land rights. The government has distributed more than 13,000 land certificates to transmigrant communities. “Infrastructure is constantly being upgraded to support community activities,” he said.
The government expects transmigration areas to become new drivers of the national economy, creating jobs and improving community welfare. (Misni Parnjiati/Lasti Martina)
