RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to boost cooperation in the cultural sector following a high-level meeting in Jakarta. The initiative highlights both countries’ commitment to advancing cultural development as part of national priorities.

The agreement was discussed during a visit by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture, Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, to Indonesia in Jakarta, Monday, April 13, 2026. The meeting marked an important step in enhancing bilateral cultural relations.

Both nations emphasized their shared vision of positioning culture as a key pillar of national transformation. Saudi Arabia established its Ministry of Culture in 2018, while Indonesia formed its own in 2024.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, stated that culture plays a strategic role as a form of soft power in today’s global landscape. He noted that the 76-year relationship of both countries is rooted not only in diplomacy, but also in shared cultural values.

“Indonesia is a megadiversity nation, and this diversity reflects a living cultural strength that continues to evolve over time,” Fadli Zon said. He added that cultural ties remain a unifying force amid global challenges.

The two countries agreed to prioritize cooperation in several areas, including intangible cultural heritage at UNESCO, museum collaboration, and the development of creative industries. These sectors cover film, literature, music, fashion, and artist residency programs.

Saudi Arabia expressed its openness to expanding collaboration across various cultural initiatives. “We are open to all ideas and opportunities for cooperation that can be developed together,” Prince Bader said.

Both sides also highlighted opportunities in museum management, film co-production, and cultural exchange programs. The partnership is expected to strengthen cultural diplomacy and create long-term benefits for both nations.
