RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is accelerating efforts to combat digital crime by integrating reporting systems between the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs and the Indonesian National Police (Polri). The move comes amid a surge in online fraud, online gambling, and sexually based extortion cases.
The initiative was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions. The agreement aims to streamline coordination and speed up responses to public reports.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, said the trend of digital crime has risen significantly in recent years. She stressed the need for faster and more integrated handling mechanisms.
“We have recorded a significant increase in digital fraud. We also receive many complaints about sextortion and online gambling, which remain major challenges,” Meutya said during a press conference in Jakarta , Monday, April 13, 2026.
She expressed hope that the agreement would help reduce such cases within the next year. “Hopefully, with this MoU, we can suppress these cases within one year,” she said.
Meutya emphasized that the main change lies in improving workflow between institutions. Previously complex bureaucratic processes involving formal correspondence will be simplified through a more integrated system.
The government also plans to simplify public complaint services by integrating multiple reporting channels. “We want to merge 110 and 112 because, in principle, the command center must be more efficient and public reports can be handled more quickly,” she said.
National Police Chief, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that the agreement would enable faster and more coordinated responses in the field. “The rise of online fraud, online gambling, and various scams must be addressed more optimally to prevent more victims and ensure faster response to every report,” he said
