RRI.CO.ID, Magelang – Indonesia is moving toward large-scale electric vehicle (EV) production. President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that Indonesia can expand electric vehicle production.

He said this while inaugurating the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant at PT VKTR Sakti Industries in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday, April 9, 2026. The inauguration marks an important step in strengthening Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry while supporting the country’s transition to clean energy.

Beyond buses and trucks, the President hopes to see local electric sedans by 2028. He believes Indonesia has the talent to build these modern cars.

“I hope that in 2028, we will begin mass-producing electric sedans. So now we already have electric buses and electric trucks,” he said.

The President also highlighted the growing capacity of the domestic industry, saying PT VKTR Sakti Industries can produce up to ten thousand units. He praised the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), noting that locally made parts now account for forty percent of production, and said he is optimistic that number will continue to rise.

He said, “The TKDN is now already at 40 percent. And in a short time, perhaps two years from now, it will reach 60 percent. Two years after that, it will reach 80 percent. This is something we should be very proud of.”

During the visit, the President viewed a number of vehicles, including electric buses used for the Trans Jakarta and Trans Semarang services, as well as various industrial electric vehicles, such as electric forklifts and electric transporters.
