Indonesia, India Build Stronger Ties in Digital Technology

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia and India are strengthening cooperation in telecommunications technology and services through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement was signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, and India’s Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.

Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized that the agreement is a strategic step for both countries to develop telecommunications technology and reinforce their digital ecosystems.

Through the MoU, Indonesia aims to ensure a successful digital transformation by improving the digital literacy of its people. “Cooperation with India is a strategic way to strengthen these capabilities. Indonesia wants to ensure that digital transformation empowers Indonesians to master, develop, and create future technologies,” Minister Meutya said in her official statement in Jakarta on September 15, 2026.

She explained that Indonesia–India cooperation aims not only to strengthen existing communication technologies but also to master next‑generation technologies.

The partnership includes joint research and development of 4G and 5G telecommunications network technologies, as well as exploration of 6G technology. It also targets the development of future technologies such as quantum technology and advanced wireless communication.

“We are discussing 4G and 5G, as well as the technologies that will define future connectivity and digital competitiveness. Therefore, we must begin preparing research, human resource development, and industry collaboration now,” she said.

The MoU signing follows up on the Joint Leaders’ Statement discussed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Prabowo Subianto during their bilateral meeting in Indonesia. (Misni Parjiati)
