RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas) plays a strategic role in enhancing literacy culture. According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Library provides knowledge resources and encourages the public to read.

The Community Literacy Volunteers (RELIMA) program brings literacy culture closer to diverse communities. Thus, libraries are no longer positioned as passive book storage spaces, but rather as centers of activity, creativity, and community empowerment.

RELIMA was launched by the National Library on May 17, 2025. The initiative aims at bringing the public closer to libraries and enable them to find the information they need.

Therefore, the National Library is strengthening one of its flagship programs, the Community Literacy Volunteers (RELIMA).

Director of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, E. Aminudin Aziz, on Monday April 6, 2026, underscored that literacy is the primary foundation for building national dignity.

"What we're aiming for isn't just the program itself, but its impact. RELIMA has a significant impact because it directly mobilizes the community. By 2026, RELIMA volunteers will reach 360 people spread across approximately 200 regencies/cities in Indonesia," he said in a media interview in Jakarta, Monday, April 6, 2026.

He also emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building a literacy ecosystem. In addition, National Library also urges library transformation through a social inclusion-based approach.

The Director stated that strengthening literacy cannot be done by a single institution alone, but rather requires synergy between the central government, regional governments, and communities.
