Indonesian Government Expands National Public Housing Program

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government will speed up public housing programs to expand access to decent housing nationwide. President Prabowo Subianto, made the statement during limited meeting in Jakarta, Monday, April 6, 2026.

As quoted by the president's official page, the program includes a major increase in housing renovations targeting communities across all regions. The government aim at renovating around 400 thousand houses as part of this year’s national program.

Minister of Housing and Settlements, Maruarar Sirait conveyed the initiative is being prepared with relevant ministries. He highlighted strong presidential support for accelerating housing development and improving living conditions nationwide.

“We just held a meeting with the President, and there is extraordinary support from President Prabowo for public housing,” Maruarar said. He also explained that strategic steps include expanding the housing renovation program across Indonesia.

The program will be implemented across all regencies and cities to ensure equitable distribution nationwide. It is expected to stimulate economic activity while promoting fairness and improving community welfare.

According to the Minister, the president also directed optimization of state-owned land for housing development in urban areas. Land owned by state enterprises, including railway assets, will be prioritized for residential construction projects.

In addition, Minister Maruarar further explained that the initiative will accommodate both low-income and middle-income communities through integrated housing development planning. This approach aims to reduce poverty, improve quality of life, and strengthen national economic resilience.
