RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is exploring plans to transform a historic building into a museum as part of efforts to strengthen the national cultural ecosystem. The initiative highlights the role of heritage assets in supporting education and tourism.

The plan was initiated by Culture Minister, Fadli Zon, during a visit to a heritage building owned by state insurer Jasa Raharja in Jakarta’s Old Town area, Thursday, April 2, 2026. The site is being considered for development into a museum through collaboration with state asset manager Danantara.

Minister Fadli Zon affirmed the importance of cross-sector collaboration in advancing Indonesia’s cultural development. He said partnerships involving government institutions, state-owned enterprises, and cultural communities are essential.

“We will collaborate with various stakeholders to transform this space into a museum that contributes to the cultural ecosystem,” he said. The initiative is expected to enhance public access to cultural and historical resources.

The Minister noted that Indonesia currently lacks representative museums dedicated to film and photography. “Film is a powerful cultural showcase that brings together elements such as performing arts, music, language, fashion, and culinary traditions,” he said.

The government plans to conduct further studies to assess the feasibility of converting the building into a film and photography museum. The project aims to provide a dedicated space to showcase Indonesia’s rich visual and cinematic heritage.

Meanwhile, Jasa Raharja President Director, Muhammad Awaluddin, expressed support for the initiative. He said the building represents not only a corporate asset but also a valuable part of Indonesia’s historical legacy.

The collaboration is expected to create a productive and educational public space while enhancing Jakarta’s Old Town as a cultural tourism destination. The project also reflects Indonesia’s broader effort to integrate heritage preservation with sustainable urban development.
