RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Red and White Fishermen’s Village Program (KNMP) is projecting a national fish production target of 2.15 million tons per year. The initiative aims to strengthen the fisheries sector to improve prosperity and food security for coastal communities across Indonesia.

Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari said that the integrated fishermen’s village development program has been progressing according to government plans. National fish production is expected to increase by 10 to 30 percent.

“This program is projected to generate up to 2.15 million tons of fisheries production per year, which will strengthen the real sector and marine-based food security,” Qodari said in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The increase in fish production is expected to accelerate economic growth in coastal villages. Government technical calculations indicate that village economic growth could rise from 5.4 percent to 16.2 percent. “Based on calculations, every 1 percent increase in fish production can drive village economic growth by 0.54 percent,” Qodari said.

Significant progress on the program's physical aspects has been reported through the end of March. First-phase targets have been implemented in 65 villages across 25 provinces.

The government allocated IDR 1.2 trillion (approx. USD 70.68 million) for the first phase of the KNMP program. Physical construction progress across regions had reached 99.23 percent as of March 30.

A total of 61 village locations have completed construction under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The remaining four areas are undergoing repairs, with comprehensive infrastructure completion expected in April.

These areas include Kapuas Hulu Regency in West Kalimantan, Sumenep Regency in East Java, and Pangandaran and Garut Regencies in West Java. The second phase of construction began in December 2025, focusing on 35 villages.

The budget allocation for fishing facilities in the second phase amounts to approximately IDR 660.5 billion. Physical construction progress on new buildings reached 16.68 percent by the end of March 2026.

The remaining work in the second phase is scheduled for completion by May. The government’s long-term goal is to build 1,000 Red and White Fishermen’s Village locations across Indonesia.

“With this model, each fishermen’s village does not stand alone, but becomes part of a mutually supportive economic network,” Qodari said. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
