President Prabowo Visits Japan to Deepen Strategic Ties in Asia

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is stepping up its diplomatic engagement in East Asia as President Prabowo Subianto departed for Japan to strengthen bilateral relations and expand strategic cooperation with Tokyo.

The president left Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at around 10:35 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 29, 2026, accompanied by a limited delegation. He was seen off by senior officials, including House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Indonesian Military Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said President Prabowo’s visit includes several key engagements, including a state call with Emperor Naruhito. “President Prabowo will conduct a state call with Emperor Naruhito,” Teddy said in a statement, as quoted by Antara.

President Prabowo is also scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo. The meeting is expected to serve as a strategic opportunity to enhance cooperation in investment, energy, maritime affairs, and digital sectors.

“Several areas of cooperation will be discussed, including investment, energy, maritime, and digital,” Teddy added.

After completing his visit to Japan, the President is scheduled to continue his trip to South Korea for the next leg of his diplomatic tour. The visit is part of Indonesia’s broader effort to strengthen its strategic position in East Asia through active diplomacy.

Also accompanying the president are Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. ***
