RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Jakarta Provincial Government holds a Car Free Night to celebrate Eid al-Fitr eve with a festive public event. The event takes place on Friday night, March 20, 2026, along M.H. Thamrin and Sudirman streets. The initiative aims to create a friendly public space while strengthening community togetherness across Jakarta.
The program runs from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time in central Jakarta areas. It transforms major roads into pedestrian-friendly spaces for public celebrations and gatherings. The event is part of efforts to create a more inclusive and vibrant urban atmosphere.
The event carries the theme “Eid Mubarak Jakarta: Rhythm of Fountain” for this year’s celebration. Activities are centered around the Hotel Indonesia (HI) traffic circle and surrounding landmark areas. The program features cultural, religious, and visual performances throughout the festive evening.
Highlights include Rampak Bedug and the Festival of 1,000 Bedug performances for visitors. A torch parade involving around 5,000 participants also enlivens the celebration atmosphere. Visual attractions include a dancing fountain, lighting show, laser show, and flying LED show.
Religious elements are also presented to enrich the spiritual atmosphere of the celebration. A sermon is delivered by Ustadz Akri for the attending community members. A special musical performance is presented by Hadad Alwi during the event.
Before the event, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung shared his statement regarding the program on Thursday, March 19, 2026. He said the initiative offers a new experience for residents during Eid celebrations in the capital. The program is designed to combine public space, culture, and a festive atmosphere.
“I have approved that the event will run from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m, and we will hold what is called a Car Free Night,” he said.
Pramono added that the program is not only designed as entertainment for the public. It is also part of the “Mudik ke Jakarta” program introduced by the provincial government. The initiative invites people to celebrate Eid in a more open and inclusive capital city environment.
The Jakarta Provincial Government implements traffic management during the event for public safety and visitor comfort. Private vehicles are restricted from entering several roads around the main venue area. Public transportation services, including Transjakarta, continue to operate to ensure accessibility.
“No private vehicles are allowed to enter, but Transjakarta continues to operate so people can still travel and enjoy the event,” he said.
The government encourages residents to celebrate the night in an orderly and respectful manner. The event is expected to strengthen unity among Jakarta’s diverse communities and visitors. It also serves as a shared space to celebrate Eid with togetherness, harmony, and joy.
