RRI.CO.ID, Depok - Universitas Indonesia (UI) has entered into a collaboration with two major technology firms, PT Artificial Intelligence Capital and PT Edge Mode Indonesia, to accelerate the development of the national Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem. This partnership aims to position Indonesia as a central hub for AI innovation within the Indo-Pacific region.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the UI Depok Campus on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, by UI Rector Heri Hermansyah, alongside Bo Niclas Adler, President Director of PT Artificial Intelligence Capital, and Edison Effendy, Director of PT Edge Mode Indonesia.
Rector Heri Hermansyah emphasized that this collaboration is a vital step in strengthening the role of higher education in driving technological innovation and meeting the demands of national digital transformation.
“This collaboration is part of UI's efforts to accelerate its role as an excellent and impactful campus, especially in the development of AI technology,” the Rector said, as quoted by Infopublik.id.
The partnership focuses on building an integrated research and innovation ecosystem that bridges academia and industry. Beyond technology development, the scope includes strengthening research capacity, improving the quality of digital learning, and cultivating top-tier digital talent capable of competing on a global stage.
Bo Niclas Adler highlighted that the partnership is expected to produce efficient computing technologies while fostering research-based innovation.
“We want to support the development of young Indonesian talent in the field of AI so they are able to compete at the global level,” he remarked.
In addition to technical development, UI is projected to serve as a center for the study of AI ethics and governance, an area of increasing global concern. Sony Danang Caksono, Director of Edge Mode Indonesia, noted that UI's multidisciplinary talent pool provides the essential foundation for these advancements.
“The potential of human resources at UI is enormous to become pioneers of AI innovation in Indonesia,” he added.
This initiative aligns with the "Indonesia Emas 2045" (Golden Indonesia 2045) national vision, which prioritizes the strengthening of the technology and innovation sectors. By establishing an AI Research and Innovation Centre, the partners hope to create a sustainable hub for human resource development and future technology.
Through this synergy, UI reaffirms its commitment to becoming a leading AI research center not only nationally but also regionally, reinforcing Indonesia's standing in the global competition for artificial intelligence supremacy. ***
