RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that vehicle congestion leading to Gilimanuk Port in Bali has been successfully cleared during the 2026 Eid travel season. The improvement marks a significant step in ensuring smooth mobility across one of the country’s busiest ferry crossings.

Field monitoring in Jakarta, Wednesday March 18, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. local time showed that queues had been fully resolved. All vehicles were accommodated in designated buffer zones, while ferry services resumed normal and controlled operations.

Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, expressed appreciation for the coordinated efforts that led to the breakthrough. He also commended the public for maintaining order and following instructions from authorities.

“Alhamdulillah, the vehicle queues at Gilimanuk have been resolved. This is the result of swift action and strong collaboration among all stakeholders, as well as the public’s discipline,” Dudy said.

He explained that the success was driven by accelerated operational measures, including the optimization of ferry fleets. A total of 40 vessels are currently operating on the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, with 30 of them applying a faster turnaround system to reduce loading and unloading time.

Authorities also strengthened traffic management and vehicle distribution systems toward the port to prevent renewed congestion. These measures are expected to sustain the improved traffic flow in the coming days.

“We will continue monitoring and evaluating conditions regularly to ensure stability, especially ahead of Nyepi Day and the peak of the Eid homecoming ” Dudy stated.

In line with the upcoming Nyepi Day, the ministry also announced temporary adjustments to ferry operations. Ketapang Port was scheduled to close from March 18 at 5:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and will reopen on March 20 at 5:00 a.m., with no queues reported prior to closure.

Meanwhile, Gilimanuk Port will be closed starting March 19 at 5:00 a.m. Central Indonesia Time and is set to resume operations on March 20 at 6:00 a.m. The Ministry of Transportation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and comfortable transportation services throughout the holiday travel period.
