RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Digital platform X has set the minimum user age in Indonesia at 16 years. This policy is an adjustment to Government Regulation Number 17/2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Providers in Children’s Protection (PP TUNAS).
The Communication and Digital Technology Ministry confirmed that this step is part of efforts to comply with national regulations. The ministry also views the new rule as a move to strengthen the protection of children in the use of digital services.
Director General of Digital Space Oversight, Alexander Sabar, welcomed the concrete action taken by the global platform. He said the policy reflects X’s commitment to complying with existing provisions in Indonesia.
“We appreciate the tangible steps taken by X as a demonstration of its compliance commitment, while also ensuring the protection of children in the digital space,” said Alexander in a written statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Previously, Alexander noted that X had conveyed its commitment to implementing the PP TUNAS provisions through a letter dated March 17, 2026. The regulation classifies social networking services as high‑risk for children under a certain age.
Under these provisions, social media services may only be accessed by users aged 16 and above. X has also communicated this policy change through its dedicated Indonesia Help Center page at the following link: https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/indonesia-resources
The Director General said information about the policy is accessible to the public through the official channels provided by the platform. The move is intended to give users a clear understanding of the new rules.
In addition, X will begin implementing its action plan related to the policy on March 27, 2026. The plan includes identifying and deactivating accounts that do not meet the minimum age requirement.
“The ministry will conduct periodic monitoring of the progress of this process to ensure full compliance with PP TUNAS regulations,” said Alexander.
The ministry also encourages other electronic system providers (PSE) to follow similar measures. “Active and timely compliance from all PSEs is crucial in creating a safe digital ecosystem for children,” he added. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
