RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 began implementing a one-way traffic scheme on the Trans-Java Toll Road to anticipate the peak of this year’s Eid al-Fitr homecoming travel, known in Indonesian as mudik. The first phase of the one-way system was applied locally from kilometer 70 to 163 in West Java, prioritizing traffic flow from Jakarta to the eastern direction.

At a press conference in Banten on Tuesday, Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, said that the one-way traffic system had been implemented starting Tuesday afternoon in the toll road system, including Jakarta-Cikampek section. He expressed hope that travel would become smoother with this traffic engineering measure.

"Tonight we are monitoring the traffic situation along the Cikampek Toll Road, and thankfully earlier this afternoon the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps implemented or began the first phase of a local one-way traffic scheme, from kilometer 70 to kilometer 163," Dudy said.

"The hope is that with this diversion, the public can travel more smoothly," he continued.

In addition, the police have also implemented a contraflow system and vehicle restrictions based on license plate numbers on several toll road sections. This will remain in effect until Sunday, 24 March 2026, with flow to be reversed after Eid.

"So far, up to this moment, traffic flow is under control and, God willing, everything is running smoothly," Dudy said. "We ask for your prayers, colleagues, so that the implementation of this one-way system can proceed well and smoothly, and that our brothers and sisters who are traveling home for the holidays can feel comfortable, safe, and arrive at their destinations safely,"

The Minister urged large trucks not to operate during the homecoming and return flow periods. This is done to maintain both the travel's smoothness and safety.

The Indonesian government estimates that around 143.91 million people, or 50.60 percent of the population, will travel home for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr. Private cars are predicted to remain the main choice, with 76.24 million travelers, followed by motorcycles and buses.
