RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A student with intellectual disability at SMA 111 Jakarta, Muhammad Nur Dirkom, shared his joy about returning home to Ciamis, West Java. Accompanied by his mother and two younger siblings, he received free mudik (homecoming) assistance from the Jakarta Provincial Government.
“I’m happy to go home and see my grandmother. Thank you Baznas, thank you Jakarta government,” said Muhammad Nur to RRI Voice of Indonesia (VOI), smiling broadly and pausing between words, while boarding the bus at Monas, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
VOI observed that participants from diverse backgrounds, including people with disabilities, elderly, and families with children, were excited, waiting for departure since early morning. Dozens of buses were ready to take them to various cities in Java and Sumatra.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, during the send-off, emphasized that this annual program is a concrete effort by the government to help citizens, especially low-income residents, celebrate Eid safely and comfortably in their hometowns.
“This free mudik program is not just a journey home. It shows the government’s care, so people can gather with their families without worrying about travel costs. We want their trip to be safe, comfortable, and smooth,” Pramono said.
He added that the program, supported by BUMDs, private companies (CSR), and institutions such as Baznas Jakarta, has expanded significantly this year.
“About 34,000 participants, with 744 buses to 20 cities across 6 provinces, an increase of 34% compared to last year,” he explained.
Jakarta’s government also ensures that all buses are roadworthy and driven by experienced drivers. Medical staff and volunteers are on standby to meet any needs during the journey.
