RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - As millions prepare for the annual Eid exodus, Indonesian Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, has underscored the importance of public transport systems that are safe, responsive, and inclusive for women and children.
During an inspection of facilities at Merak Port in Banten on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Arifah praised the measures already in place to support family-friendly travel. These include dedicated toilets for women and children, clear and accessible travel information systems, child-friendly play areas, and proper lactation rooms for nursing mothers.
She also highlighted the presence of the Women and Children's Friend (SAPA) 129 Post, a complaint center designed to handle reports of violence or harassment. “We appreciate the facilities prepared to ensure that Eid travel is welcoming and safe for women and children,” Arifah said, as quoted by Antara.
Beyond infrastructure, the minister stressed the need for responsive service personnel and robust security systems to prevent potential risks during the busy travel season. She noted the positive impact of play areas on ferries, where children were seen engaging with their parents rather than being absorbed in gadgets. “This creates a warmer atmosphere and strengthens family bonds during the journey,” she added.
The inspection was joined by several high-ranked officials, including Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian.
Also present were Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs General Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus, and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry President Director Heru Widodo.
The government hopes these measures will ensure that the 2026 Eid travel season runs smoothly, offering journeys that are not only safe and orderly but also family-friendly and inclusive. ***
