RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has lowered its alert status from Level 1 to Level 3 ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, a move aimed at maintaining personnel readiness while allowing soldiers to take leave.
Head of the Army Information Service, Brig. Gen. Donny Pramono, confirmed that the TNI AD is no longer on Alert Level 1, but all personnel remain on Alert Level 3 as part of the Eid readiness program. “We are no longer on Alert Level 1. However, the Indonesian Army is still maintaining Alert Level 3 activities because of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday,” he said at Army Headquarters on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
He explained that the transition was carried out through predetermined readiness phases, moving gradually from Alert Level 1 to Level 2 and then to Level 3. “Alert Level 1 is a troop roll call and inspection of the unit’s main weapons systems. Alert Level 2 is an escalation of readiness to deal with certain situations,” he said.
Alert Level 3, he added, is being implemented to address activities leading up to Eid. Personnel remain on alert, although some soldiers are taking leave in rotation according to unit needs.
Previously, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin emphasized that Alert Level 1 is an internal military term set by the TNI Commander. He asked the public not to be concerned about its use. “Alert Level 1 is military language. But people can interpret it politically,” he said.
Minister Sjafrie explained that Alert Level 1 requires soldiers to monitor developments in global, regional, and national situations as part of the country’s defense geostrategy. “Our preparedness has no geopolitical impact,” he said.
He added that the measure is intended to ensure public security nationwide. “The public does not need to worry. What people need is a sense of security and comfort from the state,” he said.
Minister Sjafrie stressed that the policy is part of the government’s national defense framework, while the TNI Commander is responsible for managing operational implementation in the field. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
