Minister Sjafrie Asks People not to Worry About “Siaga 1”

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, underscored that the public does not need to worry excessively about the “Alert 1” (Siaga 1) status implemented within the Indonesian Military (TNI). He further said that the term is a military terminology related to troop readiness, not a political message.

He explained that “Siaga 1” is a term commonly used in the military sector to ensure that personnel continuously monitor developments in the global, regional, and national situation.

“Siaga 1 is the term of soldiers. But people may interpret it in political terms,” Sjafrie stated.

According to the Minister, the status is not directly related to current global geopolitical or geoeconomic dynamics. The readiness maintained by the TNI is part of the national defense strategy to ensure that national security, particularly domestic security remains stable.

“So, Siaga 1 means that they must always follow developments, whether at the global, regional, or national level,” he said.

In addition, Minister Sjafrie also stressed that the measure is intended to reassure the public that the country’s security situation remains stable. He also underlined that the government is responsible for setting national policies, while operational implementation is under the command of TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto.

“So, the public does not need to worry. In fact, what people really need is to feel safe and comfortable,” Sjafrie said. According to him, military readiness is also part of the national geostrategy to make sure that the country’s stability is maintained amid the dynamics of the global situation.

In addition, the Minister added that security stability is an important factor so that the public’s social and economic activities can continue normally. Therefore, the TNI’s readiness is meant to provide a sense of security for the people.

“The readiness is meant to reassure the people that the Republic of Indonesia is safe and that they can live comfortably in terms of clothing, food, and housing,” Sjafrie stated. (AF)
