KBRN, Jakarta- There are fewer Indonesians plan to travel during the Eid homecoming period this year. A survey by transportation ministry showed only 50.60% people or 143.91 million people will do it.
The number was considered 1.75% lower than in 2025. Last year's survey saw 146 million planned their homecoming travel.
However, the number can be different from the realization in the field. Indonesia's Transportation Minister, Dudy Purwagandhi, said the traffic in 2025 was 154 million people.
"This showed people's mobility tends to surpass the predicted number in the survey," the minister during a working meeting with House of Representatives' Commission V in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The government, therefore, continues preparing transportation infrastructure across land, sea, air, and ferry sectors. Preparations include vehicle inspections, additional fleets, traffic engineering policies, and freight transportation regulations.
Authorities are also implementing several supporting policies to manage potential travel surges nationwide. These include ticket discounts, free homecoming programs, and work from anywhere arrangements.
The Transportation Ministry will also monitor Eid transport operations using digital systems across transportation networks. Monitoring includes surveillance of vehicle movement, accident reports, and public complaints during the travel period.
Specific for the crossing between the islands of Java, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara, the ministry is cooperating with various stakeholders. Minister Dudy, said that they are anticipating the temporary halt in the operational during Nyepi or the Day of Silence in Bali.
