Government Conducts Mass Ramp Checks for Safe 2026 Eid Homecoming

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, instructed all ranks of the Ministry of Transportation to consistently conduct ramp checks across all modes of transportation during the 2026 Eid transportation period. According to him, this step is important to enhance safety and prevent accidents during that period.
"The safety of the public during the Eid Transportation period must be the top priority." Regarding this matter, I have instructed all ranks of the Ministry of Transportation to conduct ramp checks consistently and according to procedures, so that all operating transportation facilities are truly roadworthy," Dudy stated during a Media Briefing event in Jakarta, Friday, 6 March 2026.
Dudy explained that in the land transportation sector, ramp checks have been conducted on 27,664 bus units since 23 February 2026. Of that number, 17,516 units were allowed to operate, while the rest were given repair warnings, prohibited from operating, or subjected to fines.
In the maritime transportation sector, seaworthiness tests have been conducted on 832 out of a total fleet of 840 ships. Meanwhile, in the ferry transportation sector, inspections have been carried out on 220 out of a total fleet of 254 ships.
Then, in the air transportation sector, ramp checks have been conducted on 372 aircraft out of a total fleet of 564 aircraft. In the railroad sector, ramp checks have been conducted on 3,672 units of rolling stock out of a total of 3,687 units.
He asked all transportation operators to properly maintain their fleets, ensuring they truly meet safety standards before operating. He also wants all public transportation users to receive the best service during the Eid al-Fitr transportation period in 2026.
"All public transportation must ensure passenger safety and provide optimal service. This is important so that passengers feel safe and comfortable during their journey," Dudy said.
